GE Healthcare
I started working for GE Healthcare, a division of The General Electric Company, in April of 2004. As a software validation engineer, it was my responsibility to test new software releases for the company's line of patient monitoring products. This included wired cardiac monitors such as the Solar 8000M/i, Dash 3/4/5000, Solar 9500, PDM Acquisition Device, and Datex Ohmeda FM, as well as wireless transmitters such as the ApexPro CH and PatientNet DT-4500/7000. I also tested central monitoring products such as the GE CIC, Datex Ohmeda Central, and PatientNet Central.
Other testing-related responsibilities included writing test procedures based on software requirements, fixing test procedure issues, documenting software issues, and training new employees. In addition to testing, I did a large amount of development to produce tools for the department. The biggest project was a PHP and SQL resource allocation system that allowed my boss to allocate resources to various projects and view statistics about workload. It also allowed department employees to enter their availability hours on a calendar system, record contact information, and observe what projects they were scheduled to work on. Another project that I worked on was a table generator that parsed a list of SPRs to generate a table that testers could update in real time with their verification progress. I also wrote an application for load performance testing that populated a workstation's network adapters with a large number of IP addresses to allow simulation of transmitters. Aside from software development, I also designed and built a temperature simulation device that simulated a series of temperatures for testing purposes.
