In April of 2007, I started working on this online museum. It is essentially a database of various artistic and historical artifacts from throughout mankind's history. Whereas most current museums are currently only focused on traditional art (such as paintings), this one combines traditional art with artifacts that you would find in a history or science museum.
So far the website has a database with over 25,000 different artifacts for people to view free of charge. Eventually, I hope to expand that to something around 100,000. I also hope to implement a user-driven system where anyone can submit artwork and artifacts to the collection. The collection is searchable by who owns the painting, the country of origin, and the artist's name. I also implemented a tagging system so you can tag anything in the collection with categories like boating, portrait, Ancient Egypt, etc. It is already one of the largest museums on the web, and its traffic is growing swiftly.
