MSOE Computer Engineering Class of 2007

I started studying computer engineering at the Milwaukee School of Engineering as an undergraduate student in September of 2003. I must admit that the school gave me a great education, for the most part, with a tremendous amount of hands-on work. In almost every technical class, I had to complete lab assignments every week, along with the regular coursework. The knowledge gained from lecture combined with the experience gained in lab produced a nice synergy that greatly helped in advancing my knowledge of technical subjects. The coursework was certainly quite a challenge, but it was also interesting and very educational.

During my senior year at MSOE, I also had to take a year of senior design, which entailed going through the entire engineering process. I joined a team of three other people (Andrew Mischock, Ryan Atwood, and Erich Musick) to design an electronic guide system for the university's art museum, currently under construction. We started by meeting with the museum's curator to find out exactly what he wanted, then went through the entire design, implementation, testing, and documentation process. The end product was an economically-priced system that uses off-the-shelf parts and costs far less than competing products.
