Saltwater Aquariums

I started learning about all the details regarding saltwater aquariums in the summer of 2004. I was amazed by all the information that people had discovered about saltwater ecosystems as well as how science was applied to the set up and maintenence of a saltwater aquarium. In August of 2006, I set up my first saltwater aquarium, a 75 gallon glass tank. After purchasing live rock and cycling it, I added some great fish, coral, and invertebrates. The experience has taught me a lot about the Earth's oceans, fish, microbiology, and even fluid mechanics.

My Current Stock:

Foxface Lo
Coral Beauty Angelfish
2x Blue/Green Chromis
Firefish Goby
Diamond Spotted Goby
Cleaner Shrimp
Tiger Pistol Shrimp
Dwarf Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
Toadstool Mushroom Coral

Aside from the creatures listed above, the tank is teeming with smaller creatures. If you look at the tank in the morning, you will see all of the tiny nocturnal creatures that inhabit the sand bed and rock caverns. I haven't been able to identify all of them, but there are bright red worms in the sand, swimming pale worms, copepods, amphipods, and a wide assortment of algae, including caulerpa, chaetomorpha, and cyanobacteria. This is only what is visible to the naked eye, and there are untold varieties of bacteria on the microscopic scale. Additionally, there are a lot of sea squirts and dwarf feather dusters hanging on the rocks, filtering the water.
